The Bob Baffert, West Coast trainer, led the field of eight three-year-old horses in Saturday’s $200,000 Los Alamitos Derby (G3). The Los Alamitos Derby formerly known as Swaps Stakes is an annual race held at Los Alamitos Race Course in Los Alamitos, California. This race is open for three years old horses willing to race one and one-eighth miles on dirt.
The Hall of Fame trainer, Bob Baffert is known for winning the race six times since 2000 and last year’s winner was Accelerate trained by John Sadler. An impressive victory over West Coast in the Easy Goer at Belmont Park on June 10 indicates he is 9-5 morning line favorite and looks terrible. Sadler was looking for back to back wins in a race with Cristron (7-2) which was third in Penn Mile (G2). Kimbear (4-1) trained by Eric Kruljac was the third in the morning line. Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, with the Shared Belief winner in 2014 and Skipshot winner 2010sends Colonist (9-2) to make his stake debut. Fifth place finisher of the race was Tale of Silence which has run second and earn 98 Beyer in the runner up finish in Dwyer. Go to my blog.
The Baffert trainee broke his first record in second careers start and then just missed his stakes debut in Lexington (G3) at Keeneland.Klimt began his career with his eighth-place finish at 7-1 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Cistron check in third in Penn Mile (G2) on dirt.
